THE SONG

“a quote from me about this song, and what it means to me.”

- Caroline

Lyrics

I’m grounded in me, I’m grounded in you
I’m grounded in the water that flows in, around, and through
I’m willing, I’m moving, I’m the ever dancing one
I’m grounded in light, I’m grounded in love

The sand is soft beneath my feet
The waters move and dance with me
The salt forgives, heals and cleans
And now I’m ready

I’m grounded in me, I’m grounded in you
I’m grounded in the water that flows in, around, and through
I’m willing, I’m moving, I’m the ever dancing one
I’m grounded in light, I’m grounded in love

The air shapes and shows the way
The fire burns, I’m warm and safe
The morning comes I greet the day
Now I’m ready

Not another thing I need
Tend the soil, sow the seed
As I release I too am freed
And now I’m ready

I’m grounded in me, I’m grounded in you
I’m grounded in the water that flows in, around, and through
I’m willing, I’m moving, I’m the ever dancing one
I’m grounded in light, I’m grounded in love

BIO

One line

Caroline Cotter writes sunlit folk songs about connection, wanderlust, and the countless ways of being human — a touring artist who has played 1,000+ shows in 46 states and 19 countries.

Short — ~90 words

Maine-based folk singer-songwriter Caroline Cotter writes sunlit, disarmingly honest songs about connection, nostalgia, and wanderlust. A full-time touring artist, she has played over 1,000 shows in 46 states and 19 countries — from churches and barns to Parisian living rooms and a schooner off the coast of Maine. Following three acclaimed records, she releases the full-length album A Quiet Song of Hope in June 2026 and then a second full-length The Answer in late 2026. “Grounded in Love” is the second single from The Answer.

Full

Caroline Cotter’s sunlit songs honor the countless ways of being human. With her honeyed voice and disarmingly honest lyrics, she sings about connection, nostalgia, gratitude, loss and wanderlust. Lines like “Find me somewhere out on the road / Take me into your heart and into your home” make perfect sense from a touring artist who has played over 1,000 shows in 46 states and 19 countries — performing in churches, art galleries, barns, yoga studios, punk bars, Parisian living rooms, and even a schooner off the coast of Maine.

Growing up in Rhode Island, Cotter played piano and absorbed records by The Beatles, The Beach Boys, The Carpenters and Bob Dylan. She spent her early twenties in Spain, Thailand and India — studying yoga and meditation, sleeping on train station floors, witnessing the innumerable ways people live. Walking the Camino de Santiago, she felt “wildly alive… free yet full-of-purpose” — a feeling she’d later reclaim as a touring musician.

As a songwriter, Cotter waits for the wellspring of emotion to arise, then wrings her experience into rhyming couplets. With the precision of an analog photographer, she adjusts the aperture of her attention to move between the particular and universal. Under the Radar magazine writes that her music “brings forth an abiding sense of warmth and welcome.” Following three acclaimed records — Dreaming as I Do (2015), Home on the River (2018) and Gently as I Go (2023) — Cotter releases the LP A Quiet Song of Hope in June 2026, with another full-length The Answer arriving late 2026.

In 2025 she crisscrossed the US, toured Germany for two months, served as artist-in-residence at the World Expo in Osaka, Japan, and traveled Italy on an “End of War Peace Tour” with her WWII-era Gibson banner guitar marking the 80th anniversary of WWII’s end. Cotter won the Maine Songwriters Association Contest and was a finalist at Freshgrass and Rocky Mountain Folk Fest. When not living nomadically, she resides on the coast of Maine.
