On the mountain I let gravity take me down

I’m running like a mother for her baby that's about to drown

and leaves drop behind without a sound

and the wheels on the bus go round and round and round

And she says,

“A woman in this day and age can’t wait for him to come and turn the page.

And while some twiddle thumbs just sit around and wait I work hard to create my own story

‘cause waiting gets boring.”

She hikes high on Chocorua

picking wild blueberries and chatting with chipmunks

passes an old climber with admiration in his eyes

“In these woods I've finally found you just too bad I'm sixty five and now you arrive.”

And he says,

“A woman in this day and age must beware of bees and bears and boys and try and behave.

These rocks and trees and air work hard to help us save ourselves from the spells of down there.

It’s a hard crazy world down there.”

So she travels along over hills and rocky peaks

on foot then bus then boat working hard to get some sleep

she hears a muffled voice but the words turn into noise

rushed by memories of lost lovers and other old boy toys but she made her choice

And now she says,

“A woman in this day and age must work hard to find her path alone and make her own place

and if love should slow her down in that race, she'll work hard to make it work in her story.”

It’s a working hard story

A woman in this day and age cant wait for him to come and turn the page.

And while some twiddle thumbs just sit around and wait I work hard to create my own story

‘cause waiting gets boring.
