H e l p o u r s e l v e s p r e t e n d
My friend nick from Darien was a 70 year old homeless man I met on Sunday on a dock in Spain.
We talked for hours in the sun as he told me all of the things he’s done and gave me a song he wrote in ’68.
An Eye for an Eye he told me slow of UFOs and NGOs and every hippies costume that they wore.
A wealthy mother’s history, plus LSD and lots of weed, opened up his mind to help explore the benefits of sleeping on the floor.
My face is burning don’t take offense, because though I may turn away
I’m hearing what you say of your stories from way back when.
And everyday I’m learning from new found friends who tell of their time away
and how it helped to make today the dream that just won’t end as we try to help ourselves pretend.
Megan tells me all about her life she’s got well figured out after years of travel all alone.
She finally met the man to be the father of the family but one she chose to logically put on hold.
The news came in a dream that she had the day after consent from her Sicilian dad but children hadn’t been part of the plan.
Initial shock turned into pain, then a numbness she could only hope would remain and a feeling I hope I never understand.
My face is burning don’t take offense, because though I may turn away
I’m hearing what you say in your stories from way back when.
And everyday I’m learning from new found friends who tell of their time away
and how it helped to maketoday the dream that just won’t end as we try to help ourselves pretend.
