In between ashes and seeds stand the Evergreen trees
A pine a spruce a Douglas fur through winter’s cold color endures
And beneath the freeze needles prick those who tease
December evening evergreen trees
By the fire she reads of the birds and the bees
A hungry caterpillar grows in size as she feeds
With every turn of the page we add a click to our age
Another ring for evergreen trees
In between ash and seeds stand the Evergreen trees
A pine a spruce a Douglas fur through winter’s cold color endures
And beneath the freeze needles prick those who tease
December evening evergreen trees
When Monday’s apple was through she ate not one pear but two
Wednesday’s plums she ate all three then onto Thursday’s strawberries
Friday’s oranges lined that little bug’s insides
She’s climbing up an evergreen tree
Through the sausage and cheese she gobbled up with ease
Then into time of hiding feeling full and uneased
But to her own surprise she awoke a violet butterfly
Not all of us can be evergreen
In between ash and seeds stand the Evergreen trees
A pine a spruce a Douglas fur through winter’s cold color endures
And beneath the freeze needles prick those who tease
December evening evergreen trees
