B l u e   a n d   G r a y

When you're blue and gray, you know the master painter hasn't lost his way

because not everyday can be a Monet

When you're down and sinking into black

and someone drove their Chevy through your shining field of gold haystacks

well not everyday can be a Monet

So size me up and don't hold back a thing

I know these jeans have seen better days

and all my things are stained with wine and coffee rings

But I'll embrace the sting and the silence hatred brings

and thank God for the good and the bad

and know that when we're sad we'll add that to our list of ephemeral things life brings

When you're blue and grey, you know the master painter hasn't lost his way

because not everyday can be a Monet

And when you're blue and grey

the only explanation is that it has to be that way

because not everyday can be a Monet

No not everyday can be a Monet.
