A Midnight Escape

So long ago on a farm with a radio

cozied up listening to fireside chats

is where I found a love divine, strong like this house of mine

built by these arms that now hold her back

She's in search of her mother

a midnight escape

and he knows that the holes in her mind are to blame

now a frightened old woman, he holds her hand tight

and guides her in peace to the end of her life

He wakes up alone she's gone

finds her out standing on

windblown and soaked by the rain

the edge of that busy street only wet socks on her

hope's gone and he's left with her pain

She's in search of her mother

a midnight escape

and he knows that the holes in her mind are to blame

now a frightened old woman, he holds her hand tight

and guides her in peace to the end of her life
